Learn about the African New Urban Agenda Platform and our mission to support sustainable urban development
The African New Urban Agenda Platform is a collaborative initiative by UN-Habitat designed to track, monitor, and support the implementation of the New Urban Agenda across the African continent.
We provide governments, civil society organizations, and urban stakeholders with the tools and resources they need to build sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities for future generations.
A shared vision for sustainable urban development
The New Urban Agenda (NUA) was adopted at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador, on 20 October 2016.
It represents a shared vision for a better and more sustainable future. If well-planned and well-managed, urbanization can be a powerful tool for sustainable development for both developing and developed countries.
The New Urban Agenda provides a framework for how cities and human settlements should be planned, governed, and managed to best promote sustainable urbanization. It emphasizes the importance of adequate housing, infrastructure, basic services, food security, health, education, decent jobs, safety, and natural resources.
